Back into the Swing

New Years Party with good friends...

After a well deserved rest, we are ready for another well deserved rest!

The boys are very busy again...Shane wanted the chance to try soccer also, so we have added that to the list. His U12 team was short 2 players, so he was a welcome addition. He's fitting in well and plays great. He's finding indoor soccer a faster game and really enjoys the fact there are fewer players out on the field. We love that his practices are at COP...so close!

Joel's soccer team continues to do well...his coach is so encouraging. Joel is learning some good skills, not the least of which is that soccer is a team sport that relies on individual effort! AND...he is trusting that passing is okay because there will be somebody there for the pass!

So between practices, games and tech training..we have become a soccer family. The best part is that the boys are enjoying it right now.

John has gone back to university...he's crazy because he thinks he's not busy enough! Second Master degree...this time in Educational Technology...fits in with what he's doing at work and his current interests. He continues to teach at Mount Royal part time as well as having a busy, but fulfilling schedule at the City (ie. loves his job!).

Carol took on school council last fall and is the community services chair. Her big event is coming up this spring...a week long staff appreciation event. She'll use all her best persuasion tactics to round up volunteers, meals and freebies! She has also taken on teaching a new course this semester at SAIT. The course is similar to previous courses, but with more hours and a more focused content related to mapping. A change is as good as a rest! She is also looking at teaching a "Technology Management" course for the next year. Basically project management, but with a strong mapping component. John can help her with the details, being the project management guru that he is! But, she is looking forward to the challenges and ultimately the rewards that come from this. Rewards? Overcoming the challenge, passing on knowledge to the few who really want to know, and...and...of yeah...the money!

Carol is heading to Toronto next week for the annual Usborne Books convention. The best part is hooking up with a friend from high school...Marg Ethier. Not that there will be much time for visiting between 3 days of sessions, but it's a start. Carol's looking forward to the break from driving and again...grateful to John for being so supportive.
